Chuckpop told me about this site, so I thought I would come on over and say hello to you all!
I live in Melbourne Australia, My husband and I drag race a 1965 ford cortina powered by a 360 Mopar.I have been racing for about 3 and a half years, and I really love it, I am very passionate about my racing!
I am the Victorian Co Ordinator of the Australian Womens Motorsport Network and am heavily involved in getting women into motorsport, especially drag racing! I am also the sales and marketing person behind an Australian Hot rod show called Rodder's Life oh and in between all this I try to live a normal life! hahahaha.
Chuckypop tells me there are a few nice rides and drag racers on this forum, I look forward to chatting to you all! Anyone who rides dirt bikes here? I also have a dirt bike, I can't ride as good as I drive, but if you 're not falling off it means your not trying hard enough (that's what my husband says anyway?)
Nice site you have here by the way, really cool!
Here is a link with some piccy's of our girl, Sorry not good at posting up photos sometimes, my computer has a bad hair day!
Ruth here, welcome aboard glad you posted that pic of you at the track - folks take a peek.
Has our own 'Pod Squad been Down Under?
Look at the guys in the back background, one in white singlet and cap other in black and red T shirt, Think they bear a passing resemblance to Dell and Mr Bowtie ??
Im just back from Melbourne as I have family there. I have a nephew into muscle cars and since my visit rods!!!! His mates have a couple of blown falcons and his mates dad runs a willys. Im sure you will probably meet up at some stage as they keep saying they will be joining this forum.
My Ford is Mopar powered to.....but not quite in your league......yet!!!!
yeh welcome on board. first we do forgive you for the cricket okay!!!
Love the cortina. Top motor and love the wheels up pic. The old saying 'old fords never die they just get better!!'
now we have a member from down under maybe Si should set up another thread called bench racing where we can all talk of ur favourite drag race or meeting, best racers over the years extra
thanks for the welcome ! The man in the singlet is my trusty crew, mechanic, tow vehicle driver, coach, bank manager and also my husband. He is a very busy man running around after me! hahahahaha. Maybe that's why he has more grey hairs popping up than usual ???
So you were in Melbourne recently! Do your nephews race at heathcote Park raceway or Calder Park often? Blown Falcons sound good, what colour is the willys?
What size Mopar do you have in your car? We are off the track at the moment, someone i.e (me) put a leg outta bed a few weeks ago on the startline during her burnout and I put a nice size hole in the block, spat out a welsh plug and a few other bits, .I was given a box of bits off the startline after the meeting ended.
Soooo, we are building another Mopar, this one will be the balls and all! We are looking at 412 cubes, it will be lazy and around 620 odd horspower- ish, our engine builder has ordered lots of wonderful parts from the USA, and it will be one hell of an engine I can tell you, and more importantly, it will be Mrs Mopar proof! hahahaha, if that's at all possible!
We hope to run 9.2's to 9.4's all day, something nice and consistent is what we are aiming for.
So my hubby and I are bench racing and supporting our friend Johnny No Gas who runs a cortina as well, his engine came back from the engine builder yesterday, the converter has been done, and later on today, the engine will be going back in and we can fire her into life! Johnny uses the same engine builder we do! Moe Engines!
Next weekend a major meeting is on and we hope that Johnnys car will be ready to run so he can do a test and tune with it.
Yeah sorry about warne, and the cricket, I am glad its over just quietly as I am sick of listening to everyone talk about Warne! The media have just over run us all with the man of late!
I think the bench racing idea is a good one, I can fill you all in on what's happening at the track when the meetings are on, we, have a few big ones coming up, one next week end and another in March.
Hubby and I used to race a 1973 Holden LJ Torana with a 355 stroker engine that ran a best of 10.30 at 132 mph. This was a street registered car with a chrome olly cage, standard rear end and a set of slicks. We had always wanted to run 9 secs, but safety is a big thing with us and to run a 9 in the torrie we would have had to pump mega dollars into the body to fully tub it and make it a full chassis car, not to mention the time we would have been off the track as well.
We knew the owner of the Cortina, and we had watched it run many times, always straight and very consistent. By luck, the owner got in touch with us and told us he was thinking of selling the Cortina and would we be interested.
We Were! So once we had a firm commitment from him, we put the torrie up for sale and a week later, she went to a new home and the cortina come to our new home!
I am more of a holden person, coming from a holden oriented family, , but we did purchase the Cortina based on its individual merit and we both just love it! Some people say we had gone to the dark side after having a Holden/ Holden combination!!!
What ford do you have? I can't fully make it out in your avatar?
love to get mine on the strip to see what it does but need some steel rims and with my paintjob the cars more a show car than racer. wait till i get a full out racer then we can go for it!!!!!

We have a company in Australia that make an invisible car bra, apparently you can place it on your paint and it can be easily removed at any time, maybe you need this on the quarter panels so you can go racing ??? I'll see if I can remember the name of the company and get you the link to their website if you like?
Stone chips are ugly up the quarter panels, but getting the burnt rubber off the inside of the guards is just as painful I reckon! Some racers I know put clear contact type stuff on their guards and peel it off and others use a spray on the quarters that stops the burnt rubber from making good contact with the paint and just wash it off after a meeting.
My nephews are only just into the whole car thing, having lived in Italy before Oz its all new to them!!! Im sure they will find you at a meeting at some point and say hello.
I cant believe You came on here just as I got home as it would have been good to meet up. I was supposed to meet with a local rod club but couldnt find them and I missed the Nationals by a couple of days!!!
As for engines, you are way out of my league!!! The pop runs a 318 small block at the moment, but I am building a 383 big block for next year.

Hey mr popular,
It was a shame that I had missed you whilst in Oz! The Summer nats are very big, you see everything at the Nats! Could have taken you drag racing too! Let me know when you plan to visit next, I will make sure you get your fill of Hotrods and drag racing.
The 383 sounds nice, have you got room for a supercharger too???? Sorry had to put that in, I love superchargers!
how long have you had the 318? What has made you go to a 383?
hi mrs mopar ,i'm driving a 1955 ford zephyr with a 302 in it. if you want to try and match people to their cars, you can have a look in "current vehicles" on the front page. cheers .
Hi Mrs Mopar, sorry i've only just introduced myself. The cortina looks great. i'm a big fan of cortinas, mopars and drag racing so your car works for me! I've got a Humber Sceptre project on the go at the moment, i sold an Australian Chrysler Valiant Charger to get it. It should be on the previous vehicles page but simons too lazy to update that. Here's a pic of my old cortina, not as quick as yours though.
I was in Melbourne recently too and my wife and I are looking to move there in the future as she has family in Geelong.
Loved the cars and looks like a good healthy car scene there too.
Next time we are over we will look you up.
Ian
Hiya Ian,
Nice to meet you. Let me know when you make it to Melbourne, i'd be happy to show you around the car scene and the racing scene if you like, there's always something going on!

Hiya Bod,
Nice looking Zephyr, 302 is a good engine size too. Have you had the zephyr long? Any plans for the zephyr in the future?
I will check out the gallery too and see all the rides!

Hiya Mitch,
Nice to meet you too! So you owned a Val did you? Did you get it brought over to the UK or did you purchase where you are?
There are'nt many nice examples of Chrysler Val's around like there used to be. Two of my friends have dodge challengers, one has been in resto for 9 years and has just got back on the road, the other is a work in progress, but they look really cool!
You know its funny, years ago I would not have looked twice at a Valiant and I did'nt realise how good Mopars are till I got one, geez I did'nt even like fords! Talk about turning 360 degrees !!!
The piccy of your Cortina is a good one. What year is yours? I am still learning about corty's, as I said, I was a Holden girl all my life till now!
Hi Mrs Mopar, love the cortina. and glad you have visited this site, how did you find us?
I have built a T from scratch and have been doing cars for 30 years and have built and owned quite a few cars and all in different styles, this is my first rod, but have done them all [it seems] mini truks, fullsize truks, streetmachines, vans etc
I just love building them and help others out when I can.

Hello there digger,
Nice T by the way! I was just cruising the internet one day, had a moment to be bored, and clicked on another site, and chuck pop sent me a PM and told me about this one, so I had a look and here I am!
I am glad I found this site, really nice people here!
Sounds like you have been busy building lots of different cars and trucks over the years, what's been your favourite so far?
I would love a 2 door coupe with a supercharger, but my husband tells me that I am stretching the wedding vows with having the race car and i got a new daily driver in oct last year ( 2006 SUBARU WRX, I know it's not old tin, but economical and it was the only car I would go to after having a V8 Holden HSV clubsport, my husband hates me sometimes cos I know too much about cars and he can't put me in a really 'girly' style car!) , so i can't really sook, but I really really like superchargers, can't help it!
Have you ever raced any of your cars down the quarter?
I'm building the Humper more for my wife to drive than me, i love the thought of her leaving the Passat at home and going out in that. Much more interesting. Up until now she's always been a pasenger in my cars at shows, will be nice to see her talking to people about HER car.
Hi Mrs Mopar, thanks for the comment on the T. I dont really have a favorite but I mis some more than others! My 3lt V6 off road style Ford Fiesta when I was in my early twentys comes a close first place and a 1954 F100 I had in the early 90's probably second. If I had to choose.!! Also miss my MK1 escort estate with a 2lt pinto and 5 speed , that was a quick car and lots of fun as well. the wife had one as well at the sanme time, although not as well finished.
I have done a few trips down the quater and enjoyed it, only at run what ya brung events though.
Was going through some old photos, click on the below link and scroll thru the photos, there is a photo of a beautiful Tall T, it is black, does the most awesome burnouts and does around 12.2 secs down the quarter mile ! This guy drives it to the track changes the tyres and takes of the exhaust and absolutely canes the backside of it all day, puts tyres and exhaust back on and drives home............. awesome!
You know when this guy is on the track, no one does a burnout quite like him!
Hi Mrs Mopar, excellent tall T, had seen some pics in an aussie mag a few months ago that a freind had. I just love those Tall T's, the wife would love one [they have side windows and a heater!!]
