Ow Jerry what have you done asking that question? Fi,not sure how you can describe the difference between a hotrod and a streetrod by where the owner sleeps?? personally i have never known the difference between a hotrod and a streetrod, but guessed that a hotrod was more for taking down a drag strip but a streetrod was more for using on the street? Also a hotrod or streetrod has to be made before a certain year i think, is it pre 49?? as for a ratrod, that is a fcuking hard looking hotrod, usually in primer or matt black! I think Jerry has started something here, i for one will be interested in what people have to say!
AS far as my comment as to where the owners of a hot rod & street rod sleep refers to soemthing that was said on the NRSA forum, they were saying that a hot rod was built with blood, sweat and tears in someones garage, where as the street rod was built with a cheque book and therefore the owner could afford to pay to sleep in a hotel when at the major shows.
A led sled or Kustom is in my opinion a car, usually pre 1953 with fantastic shape that has been roofed chopped and lowered, a bit like the one that Mike posted as his dream car. The UK Kustoms guys have debated this on their forum and came to much the same answer.
To be honest, these titles are only names and what possilbily all that matters is that the cars are used and not tucked up in a garage somewhere and not being used and loved.
I think this one could be a hard one.I think Fi has the right idea about the hotrod and the streetrod, but then again some of todays hotrods are open cheque book jobs where as the ratrods arent mmmm.As for the leadsled as far as i'm concerned it has to be a chopped 1950 mercury.
learn something new everyday, i know my pop is classed as a custom but i liked the 'streetrod' badge that i put on the boot, i better remove it now cos the chequebook i thru at it bounced back and hit me in the face plus there's some blood, sweat, lots of swearing and lots of tears gone into it already and i still not happy with it!
As for the leadsled as far as i'm concerned it has to be a chopped 1950 mercury.
You and 99% of the UK Kustoms membership.
Tony, if you like the Street Rod badge on the rear of the pop, you keep there hunny and if anyone complains: slap hard and keep 'em I told you to keep there.
Been thinking about number 7: what is a hot hatch? Me think's it's more likely to be a golf mk1 or 2 GTi, an XR2 or 3, a Reno5 turbo, a 205 GTi or an Uno turbo that kind of thing.
AND been thinking (again) what is a classic, a retro and a banger? Not forgetting what is a vertain and a vintage? How many times have people told us that we've got a lovely vintage car? Vintage is pre-war and classic is post war to I guess mid '70's, then they become retro. Banger's well I don't think I'll go there tonight.
An early designed vehicle with seperate fenders and head lights (removed or not)with new/shiny paint and non standard engine designed for speed
2.....ratrod,
As above without shiny/new paint. Either the paint will be original or made to look old.
3.....streetrod
A later designed vehicle with wings with headlights with new/shiny paint and non standard engine designed for speed
4......modified
Any vehicle that has been modified to the original factory specification
5.....custom
A vehicle that has been modified by having parts that were not designed for the vehicle fitted to it. (plastic skirts and spoilers bought from Halfords are not custom)
6.....muscle car
A car that has a large powerfull non standard? engine fitted by the manufacturer
7.....hot hatch(back in a min,gotta be sick)
any 3 or 5 door FWD hatch back with an engine more powerfull than the standard, fittedby manufacturer or not.
8.....lead sled
A large saloon lowered and de trimmed. chopped and filled with lead not plastic!
9 .....replica
A car that has been built to look exactly like a manufacturers standard car.
A kit Deuce is not made to look like an original 32, it looks like the rod the builder has decided on, so in my opinion is not a replica.
10.....what else have we got?
Boy Racers
I wrote a 12 page essay on this but have decided to amend it to: idiots that think parking in a supermarket car park is a cruise. Riding mini motos round a car park in town means you are a seriously into cars and that having a load stereo is as important as the car it is in.
