It was mentioned about doing something at Ians mates pub in Woodham before, but due to winter setting in it seems to have taken a back seat recently, so i thought maybe we should organise something. Something relaxed, involving cars, bikes, scooters and hopefully some air cooled VW's too. I wouldn't like to encourage modern cars as i dont believe that is what Turtlespeed is about and if you want to see a saxo or corsa you can look in Sainsburys car park. I will happily supply signs and lay out for a band or DJ, i dont want this money back but i just want our first event to be worth going to. I thought about early May time, as by then the weather is starting to cheer up and people are itching to get there cars out.
Yea Im up for it, but not sure if we should say no modern cars allowed. If we have this at ians mates pub, we cant say no to his customers!!!
However with the type of band or dj that we know, I dont think they will come any way. If Querty comes down in his Saxo are you going to turn him away, or do you mean do we we just have the modern cars on a different side of the car park like the Dick Turpin?
I dont mean no modern cars, but was hoping the car park would be big enough (like the dick turpin) to seperate show cars and normal cars. I think that encouraging the modern cars would put off other, more suitable cars. I get the impression that the VW boys will be put off by it and (despite what another club may think) i think a few customs or classics may be put off too.
Good luck with this. But it kinds of leaves Mods n Rodders out as a club although we cant stop and I wouldn't want to stop individuals attending.
A couple of things that dont make sense with me. I've been to several meets at the Dick T and all have had mods and rods mixed. I've even shared a pint with modders and rodders.
It also doesn't make sense that some on here wish not to upset people they dont know but like their cars. Then are happy, seemingly to upset people they do know but dont like their cars
I did say I would post more on turtlespeed as you are considered as friends even though when it comes to our hobby we have a differance of opinion. So I hope you dont mind me asserting my point of view.
Firstly can I just say again that you are a friend and although we have differences of opinion in some areas you are welcome to post your views as long as the thread doesnt degenerate into an argument, I will leave it to run. I have not joined mods and rodders because I know my views are different!!
Having lived in the southend area I used to go to the dick turnip every wednesday for a few years. The Modders although going through spells of turning up and then leaving us alone have never been welcome. Every night has something different and wednesday has always been american car night. They have there own night. Some have moaned that retro cars come up, but as they fit within the scene better they have always been allowed in. Its only the modern they dont want there.

I dont understand this mate. We have no wish to upset anyone, friend or not and there is no one on here who is happy to upest anyone. The fact that someone is prepared to say they dont like something isnt trying to upset people, just being honest. There are plenty of people in both the rodding and modern scenes who hate mine and Nessies car for that matter. If they dont like them then they are not upsetting me just stating an opinion. I like some modern cars but if we have a show no modern cars allowed on the show field. We have been clear about this since the beggining, so if you turn up in a tigra or corsa you are bringing it on yourself. I consider Clinton to be a good friend of mine but I dislike his car and he knows it. He is more than welcome to come to our show, but the Orion wont be allowed on. He understands and wont be upset. The only person I know in your club with a modern car is Pete Im sure he is grown up enough to understand that we dont dislike his cars just to try and upset him.
There is no reason why anybody should get upset about not having an acceptable car for our shows. For example, Should i get upset that at the Hayride my car has to go in the main car park as it is too modern or even at the Ford Day at Battlesbridge should i get upset that i cant show my car as i dont have a ford? No, not really. I realise that each car has its place. Also Mods and rodders will be there, Mods (scooters) and Rodders (hot rods), so hopefully it will work out ok. I've been talking to a lot of air cooled VW owners today and i believe they would enjoy this show as much as anyone else. They were very enthusiastic.
we all have our own thoughts on what our idea of a car should be. I have no love for modern day cars with body kits. They to me are not Mod rods as the so called saying goes.(shopping trollies yes)
Look on the shelves of your local newsgaent and see how many modified car mags there are and then look at the custom car/rodders mags. Modified mags outway the rodders mags so why oh why do they have to be part of our scene when they totally outway the scene we follow?
My idea of a custom car/muscle/rodders show is exactly what the title of the leaflet says. Modified clubs put on there shows and have fantastic turnouts by those who love the cars and good luck to them.
its not a case of well they are here so lets look you either love em or hate them and I hate them!!! modified cars have no place on a show field full of 50's cadillacs, cross ply rods, muscle cars, british rods and custom motors.
there is a totally different idealism of what goes into making a car to show from both sets of groups. generation gap? maybe but i my opinion modified cars do not belong on the same field as custom cars etc.
As soon as you guys come up with a date, let us know so we can put the word around the classic car scene (that is if you would like some standard old motors there )
