Hello There all

Hi Guys/Gals

Thought I would join up, I am a regular member of Retro-Rides.com and I noticed this Forum was posted.

A bit about me, Well I am 25 and a Retro/Classic car nutt throught and through, I Got my first taste as a nipper in my folks Tina's and hearing stories of the folks old MG's. As soon as I turned 16 My parents bought me a MG Midget to restore and use when I passed my test.

I still own the car to this day, and over the years its been slowly transformed into what it is now, A highly tuned 1500 Midget Sprint car, up untill I turned 22 it was my daily for UNI and the like, which in turn cost a fortune, so I decided to use it as a weekend vehicle and get something more fuel friendly.

I have done many track days and sprints in the car and its excellent fun to drive esp. with the Bucket seats and sparse interior.

When I was at UNI I also had a Hankering for a MGB GT, and one cold winters day in 2002 I was driving the midget to a Friends out in the sticks. By chance I noticed a MG BGT In primer Grey sitting in the middle of a field I promptly went to the closest house and asked about the car. 2 days later and £200 out of my pocket a MGBGT turned up on the driveway, The car was a total rot box and full of filler, each panel basically fell off the care, so with a UNI Loan a full restoration commenced.

This car from the outset of the rebuild was never going to be standard (Too many of them about). So I set my eyes on tuning the Boat Anchor motor as much as I could. The restoration too 2 years and the car has been used every weekend ever since, its not kept in dry storage its left outside (Midget takes up a 3 car garage with all its bits LOL).

Modds Include

Kent High lift cam
Stage 2 Big Bore Head
High Lift Rockers
DCOE 45 Weber
Full Race poly bush suspension setup
Uprated Dampers front and back
Maglite Wheels
Yoko Soft Compound Tyres
Full Leather Interior
Many more but cannot remember.

Hope you like

I Shall Post some better imges up when I am back home.

Cheers

Nathan

P.S.

Sorry about the Image size

Interesting to know the story, the BGT sure looks impressive to say it started as a £200 field find!

Hi,

Love the Midget. Good use of a student loan.  I always wanted to do similar to a Mk3 Spitfire, just hasn't happened yet. Thanks for joining the forum.

Funny you should ask about the Midget, The last Picture on this thread (One with the back of the 2 cars) Was the day before I put the Midget into dry storage (I Had only just finished uni and could not afford to tax both cars, and refused to get rid), but as of this weekend we decided to Get rid of our TR6 and return the Midget to its home.

The Midget was used daily for a while which caused a few bubbles to appear on the front wing bottoms (Nothing bad just surface), As I did not want this to get any worse dry storage was the best way. So Yesterday I towed the little rocket back and got the garage ready for a Winter of Rubbing down (Does not really need a respray but hey I have the time so why not!) and Engine re-building, ready for next years show season ESP Retro-cars show and some sprints in leeds.

The car itself handles like its on rails, it was a big shock to drive the BGT the first time when used to the Midget. I shall post some Progress Pictures of it as well as the BGT Progress (Just a Front Wing replacement and I think a bit of a respray) when I have them.
