Trying to get the Cadillac up and running,I have just carried up a small service new oil, , Filter plugs and point, rotor arm and cap etc and now it will not start
it has no spark at either the SP leads or the HT lead, but a spark on the points if you put a screwdriver in and open them with the ign on!
I have also put the test light on the coil on both the + & - sides and it lights up, also on the point and condenser again it lights up!
Totally stumped!. Ive nicked my dads coil lead of his Caddy to double check and this makes no difference.
Any ideas, is there something Im missing???
Thanks for any help in advance

Have you put the rotor arm back in the Dizzy ? Daft question I know, but if eveything else is working as it should then it`s the rotor arm n contacts in the cap that makes the circuit to the plugs

when you test the coil both sides when the points are open the test light should be on when the points are in the closed position the test light should go out one the - side if the light is stays on then you could have a dodgy set of points or the wire between the coil and the points is breaking down failing this could be your coil hope this helps.....Mark
thanks for the quick replies, swap the coil over for another 6volt one, that i had kicking around will check with the point closed with the old test lamp, getting pi**ed off now as i want to drive me car!
Try your old rotar arm, this sounds very much the same problem we had with Bods zephyr last year, the rotar had a minute crack under the metal tab, you couldnt even see it but with a different rotar it was fine. worth a try mate.
was that the day we couldnt fix it by the roadside so you towed me round tailspins at 70 miles an hour on about 2 foot of string.. i still wake up screaming.
Been out to the car again, i put a test light on the + side of the coil and earthed this out to the body, turned the ign on and it lights up, So getting poer in!
So what i did next was to remove the HT lead and put this to earth, remove the lead that goes from the coil to the dizzy and touch this to earth with the ign on, and i had no spark....?

you're exagerating a bit, it was 68mph and 2ft 1 inch of string! still makes me chuckle when i think about it
Me too. seeing as i broke chuckys rotor arm trying to fix Bods . Then we had to go into chuckys cave and find another....which we eventually found a four cylinder one amongst the bleached bones of dead hot hatch victims. Then i had to work a little magic and turn it into a six pot one. Happy days
haha.. i guess the lesson to be learnt is that its never as bad as it seems..although i thought breaking down the wrong side of the orwell bridge two days before the nationals was bad enough... that was until chucky tied me to his mundano and went into warp drive, our cars were so close together i could have reached out and touched his baldie head.
but it was a case of turtlespeed to the rescue, and thats the great thing about it all , we have all , at some time or another , either helped out or been helped out , and i think its just another piece of the puzzle that makes this hobby great.
hope poor old caddy man is getting a spark now cos we kinda got off the subject really.
