If my memory serves me well (im only going by what im told here, not personal experience) i think it was started by Simon (aka mr popular) and Ian (aka shrek). I think Mitch (aka mitch hahaha) is involved somewhere along the line too. I believe it was a scooter site or something???? Si, put me right mate.

Turtlespeed was started by me and Mitch as a scooter club in 1984. It pretty much consisted of me, mitch and some 14 yr old school girls who were mods at the time.
In the 80's you could get a turtle air freshner (in the shape of a turtle) which we had mounted on our front mud guards.
As we got older and into cars, turtlespeed dissapeared but we always kept a turtle on the dash board!!
Into the 90's I got married and had kids and Mitch got into the rockabilly scene and turtlespeed disapeared.
A few years ago, Shrek and myself had a disagreement with a car club we were members of and left. We decided we would start our own thing. We decided that we didnt want a club with members, politics and subs etc. Just a group of people who have similar interests and like to take the piss a little bit!!! We decided that we would be members on a forum but not an official club. When going to shows we would be under the Turtle banner if you wanted, or not....your choice.
We couldn't think of a good name to use untill I mentioned Tutlespeed, which shrek thought was a brilliant name.
We then went to the Nationals and it was mine and shreks family, (2 tents and a caravan) and we camped where Turtlespeed camps now, with a big sign that shrek and his kids painted and turtlespeed car club was born!!!
The forum has gone from strength to strength with visiters from all over the world coming and going. Because shrek is in colchester and I am/was in suffolk, most members come from colchester to ipswich....but anyone is welcome. Just have a sense of humour, no politics and no sense of smell, hay stevie!!!
I enjoy a laff and the odd beer or three but I can honestly say the sound of a v8 don't give me a stiffy, but it does do strange things to the old insides.
