Actually more like "shreeek, clunk, clang, rumble, BAAAAAANG........squeak" then i came to a grinding halt on the A14 dock spur rd. So for the second time in a week the engine is out only this time its been completely stripped down. Ive split the block and found the problem. The last owner decided that as he didnt have a big enough torque wrench to tighten the flywheel nut up to 250 ft/lbs, he would just do it up as tight as he could. Not clever as it came loose and has totally mullered the crankshaft, clutch, block, flywheel, and shaved some metal from inside the bellhousing. What a ****. Everything left thats any good has gone to a chap in Stutton to get my engine rebuilt using my top end, cam, lifters etc and mating it all to a good strong short block that he has just rebuilt. I can feel the strain on my hip pocket nerve already............

Well i did get it cheap so i shouldnt moan really. Engine is being fully rebuilt as i type so its outta my hands but ive got every confidence in the chap doing it. Hes an air cooled nut and hes been building engines for some time now. Im gettin the underneath ready for winter salt with some underseal and smoothrite and sorting out the damage to the bellhousing. The upside is that ill have a good solid engine on a good solid bug. He says confidently......

i got it for a spare just had the option at the time would only let it go if your stuck i'm running a 1600 at the mo but should that let go thought i'd put them heads on i'm sure i got a 1200 but that had some end float in the crank but run ok
Ok mark, handy to know theres a lump hangin around mate, cheers. mines a 1600 too but id really like a 1776 for a bit extra grunt. maybe when me wallet gets a rest for a while i might consider it
