Street Addict

Malcolm Jay's old car, Street Addict Humber Super Snipe gasser has been found alive and well. biggrin

I'd heard of the car and had always been interested in it, rumours were that it was still in the Ipswich area, but no-one really knew.

Just after christmas I had a phone call, as area rep for the Humber club, asking if anyone would be interested in buying a yellow customised Humber, I went to look and this is what I found. biggrin

It looked to be in remarkably good condition and complete except for one obvious item, the bonnet!. A deal was reached and it was moved home yesterday.

After a wash and removal of the naff checkered stickers. The dent in the rear will push out easily, probably caused when reversing in to the garage, the back wall was pushed out!

I hope to get it on the road sometime this year, it will appear at the Nats if nothing else.

We would like to say a HUGE thanks to Trevor (aka Digger) for all his help with operation Street Addict.

Anyone wishing to have a peak, please contact us to arrange a viewing and I might make some cakes. wink

They don't get much stranger than the Digger!

Since you said that you were building a gasser Si, I've been noticing them at shows and starting to like them.

Don't be so negative, you'll soon be on the show fields taking the p1ss out of every spub thrower and window licker you and Ian see, whilst quoting Monty blinking python and wearing silly hats. wink.gif

Back to the yella Humber. If anyone wants to pop over on Sunday and have a poke and a giggle at the beastie, you'll be more than welcome. Just send me a pm and I'll send you our address. smile.gif

Trouble is there is still only 24hours in a day (I'm sure we all know that feeling!smile.gif)
The blue '60 Snipe is on the road and hopefully so will the yella one. As for the other 2 on the drive, hopefully they will go in one form or another, I want my driveway back and the Fairlane home once Mike has been able to finish the electrics.

Mike has taken the blue one to work a few times this last couple of weeks when the Tess was off the road with a poorly engine (much better now). He doesn't really like taking it to Harwich and back, not on the twisty country lane to often, not after what happened last year. If he rolled the Humber I don't think he'd walk away like he did from the Fiat. And the A120 doesn't like the Humber that much.

UPDATE: Having spent yesterday afternoon working on the Fairlane's wiring, Mike decided today as the weather so good he'd do a bit of work on Street Addict. (As well as doing a bit of clearing up in the garden and getting me a pretty container from Bourne Garden centre for one of my houseplants)

We had one of our neighbours in stitches when she heard we what we were using to clean the chrome & stainless (a peg, don't ask but our friend Mick came up with that one last weekend!) But apart from that he discovered that all the essentials like lights, wipers and fuel pump work. The brakes are in need of a lot of TLC mind you. Still haven't tried to get the car running because something or other needs doing. Don't ask me, it's oily thing what ever it is. wink.gif That lovely checker stripe is now completely off, including the glue.

2009 Update

Due to the weather and Sniper doing a few little bits & bobs to the Fairlane, he hasn't been able to spend much time on Street Addict recently.

Over the Christmas holidays he did get a few minutes alone with Street Addict and treated a couple of the rusty patches.

As the weather was good yesterday he was able to left the cover and do a little bit. The carbs have been cleaned and checked over, they appear to be ok and when time permits he'll put them back and try to start the beastie again.

So once he's got it fired up, it'll be continuing the brake refurb and refitting them and see what esle needs to be done.

Will Street Addicit make it to the Nats this year???

Taken in the early-mid 1980's.

Not sure what Mike is planning, too many projects and not enough time sydrome is starting to take affect. I think first things first, get it running again and then able to stop!

Yip, it's a Rover v8. Bit of a pattern starting to form here as the Fairlane has a Rover under the hood.

I know Sniper is looking forward to taking it to one of our Humber Club gatherings.... That should be a giggle, but then our local group is either very open minded or too polite to make rude comments. lol

as dodge say."dare to be different" its a custom not a standard car.im sure they'll like the mods and the roar of a v8 makes most petrol heads smile. i saw a v8 in a 80s volvo estate and it didnt look to nice but the engine sounded nice.

A huge thanks to Charlie (AKA Miniboy) for his help.

Sitting on the drive waiting for a new engine. It had a lot of time spent on it over August, the wife, kids & other cars need a bit of attention. Hint. Hint.
