Got my beetle engine back in and after a few tweeks its up and running. It seemed to be a lot more "tappy" than usual so i re-checked the valve setings which are all correct. Still tapping away and very lumpy!!! Timing checked-fine. I have now found that if i take off number 1 plug or number 3 plug it makes no difference to the running. I even swapped them over to see what happened....nothing!! Firing order on a bug is 1432 and its set correctly. There is a spak at both the plugs. Help anyone????

stevie the last time i had a problem like that it turn out to be the inlet manifold not sealed properly on the head it was a new middle section manifold made in mexico holding the outer section high so it was drawing to much air hope this helps mark
Cheers Mark. Today i have taken the engine out again (15 minutes from start to finish, a personal best hehe) and stripped the manifold, fanhousing and tinware off. I removed the 1 and 2 head and looked for cracks....nothing. Mind you it was very coked and shatty. So i removed the valves and gave the head a damn good clean, renewed the guides, and reassembled the head. While refitting the manifold i checked it was sitting level (checked your reply earlier) and it seems ok. Ill chuck the engine back in tomorrow and see what happens. If it still doesnt run well youll hear the screaming.....FFFFUUUUUUCCCCCCCCKKKKKKKKKKKKK.......
