Tom and Marlene Newman have asked me to report the very sad news of the passing away of Paul Craven.
Many of you will have known Paul as a life long Hotrodder and member of the Acton Hot Rod Association.
He passed away at Colchester hospital as a result of a brain haemorrhage. This in turn was as a result of an injury Paul had sustained some 15 or so years ago.
On behalf of Tom, Marlene, myself and everyone from the Acton Hot Rod Association I would like to express our sorrow and offer our condolences to Paul's wife Val and his family.
Since the time of Paul's accident those years ago, Val has cared for Paul during his long recooperation.
Personally I have only known Paul for around three years. He was virtually always the very first person that I spoke to at the AHRA meetings, a cheerful and very warm person. I'll never forget the glint in his eye, behind the wheel of his gorgeous torquoise El Camino.
oh no this is tragic news. i really got to know Paul better in the last year or so and found him to be a top bloke. my heart goes out to his wife and family. R.I.P Paul

Very sad news. Beki called me tonight and told me and I also spoke to si just after. I didnt know paul that well but always said hello and had a chat at the pub and only saw him on bonfire night at Lawford with his two best mates Charlie Potter and Ian (57 chevy fame). Paul lived just round the corner from my mum and dad and i can remember yaers ago hearing his Show Winning 57 chevy burbling up the road. Just this year I used to hear his camino turn into the road and rumble along when I was there . I know Tom spent many a few hours on Paul's camino and he would rib me about the ally heads he had for it. I would like to pass my families condolences to his family and I am sure everyone at Turtlespeed does to. once more we lose another friend and fellow rodder to quickly.
Blast the blacktop Paul ...... R.I.P gone but never forgotten Shrek
sorry to hear of the loss of paul i know i did'nt really know him as being a newish member but my condolances to the family as i know well how hard it is with the loss of a loved one please when you see the family talk to them don't ignore them or cross the road as this hurts more
about twenty something years ago , on my brothers wedding day, paul offered his services as wedding car and driver. after the service ,and photos etc, my bruv and his new bride climbed into the back of pauls 57 chevy and he drove them out of the church gates, turned right , and floored it. the engine roared , the wheels spun kicking out huge plumes of smoke , and they took off up the road. the old dears gasped ,the old boys frowned ,and all the younguns grinned but for me something clicked inside . it was one of those moments in life that helps point you in the right direction. i never really new him but he was instrumental in my love of this scene ,and for that i salute him. my heart goes out to his close friends and family.
I never new Paul but reading some of the comments he was some fella. My thoughts are the same as everyone else. Thoughts and prayers with his family. keep rodding Paul on that blacktop in the sky no speed limits must be heaven rip...
Paul was always one of the first people to be at The Black Horse on meet nights, he was one the with the huge smile and a pint in his hand. Very sweet and friendly guy.
Our thoughts and best wishes to his family & friends. xx
