Now she looks a bit 60's circuit-racer, so I tried this, what do you think??100_2338a.jpg

Personally i dont like them or the circle !
But it depends what look your trying to achieve at the end ?
Does look like circuit racer though smile
Needs some nice chrome hub caps and chrome wheel rings. and then it will look super cool ! biggrin

Got some early MGB smoothie caps on the way, will need to work out how to fit them though as those rims are off a mid-60's Reliant Scimitar Sabre and have no provision for hubcaps. I'm not complaining, all four of them cost me £25 off Ebay, and the tyres were free!

Am probably still going down the satin/slammed route though, I just mocked up a door circle with Microsoft Paint to see what it would look like.

I was actually going to raid my local motor factors for a dozen 500ml rattle-cans of Satin Black this morning once I'd had the tyres done. But it's going to have to be done in the drive and the rain-clouds were banking up, so I thought 'bugger it'.....and guess what? Bone dry and 20 degrees all day, would have been ideal. Harumph.

Think I'll just go get the paint/masking tape tomorrow and be done with it.

I always intended painting them before I put 'em on...but it's the Nostalgia Nationals next week and I didn't want to go with it looking like it smelled of wee and Sanatogen inside.....heh heh.

leave the paint as it is for now and spray the wheels satin black, it'll look ratty and very cool for the cost of 1 air arsol can.

dont rattle can it... mask it and buy a tin of satin and rent a compressor and gun...once you have a good coat on her you will be able to rattle can it at a later date... Red wheels are very nostalgic but how about going for something like lemon yellow or Lime Green...something out of the norm... Definately 2" blocks on the back and heat up them springs on the front untill they sag down a couple of inches... How about rear spats as well....

Keep the roof colour and spray the wheels the same colour...loads of options none of which involve a bloody great circle on the side....Bad idea, that one....

It's all in hand.....have found a firm in Walsall who can make up longer U-bolts and one of the old geezers in the Engineering Dept. at work's gonna machine me up some lowering blocks out of billet (which pains me....no billet, will paint them and tell everyone they're woodenweirdface).

As for the wheels.....well I spotted a nice metallic green on a Daewoo Matiz this morning.....heh heh. or I might stick with red but go for a nice metallic like Rover Nightfire.

Anyway the plan is to enjoy it this summer then do most of the bodywork (and there's plenty to do...there's so much filler in the front wings it almost qualifies for a tachograph) over the winter. The paint that's on it now (apart from being a bloody horrible colour) is truly horrific, I reckon it's had a PVC tarp over it at some stage which accounts for the microblisters everywhere. The bonnet and boot have so much deep crazing on them I'm thinking of attaching some little toy soldiers and making a diorama of the Battle Of The Somme.

Anyway, anyone at the Nostalgias this coming weekend is quite welcome to come and pull bits of rusty bodywork off it!!!biggrin
