Thats done it...

Met chuckypop today, nice fella! His Pop looks great, sounds pure evil and has definitely got me thinking about going down the modifying route.
Then i met fi and mr & mrs pop. Again, very nice people, but chatting to simon just iced the cake!! Its at least wheels and lowered whatever car i own. If i could afford an engine swap then id have a go at that as well. Standard is nice but modified makes it personal. smile

Was nice to meet you. Mike's a bit gutted that he didn't see you, but then if he had have taken Lizzie to the loo instead of me & mum-in-law (who was hiding round the corner)

You wont regret it. Standard cars are great but a bit boring (no offence) customising gives a car the personal touch.

I know you like the colour Steve, but I was half tempted to buy it just so I could I satin black it!!!! keep the steels, paint them to match the burgundy. Chrome caps and white walls.  Loose the embelishers....to many classic car meets I think!!!

Are windscreen visors (peaks??) expensive? Missus likes those smile Are they universal or specific to the car?
Ive made my mind up regarding wheels...gotta get some slot mags. I might take si's advice for now and modify my steels but its mags for the sceptre.
Only problem for me is everything i do is on the driveway. I have no garage or workshop so an engine swap would be a pain but it could be done in good weather. Its just the welding thats a problem. 1 cos i dont have a welder and 2 the last time i borrowed one and welded on the driveway i got a bollickin off the council. Fkn neighbours.....furious

Well I'm cream crackered, shame the kiddies aren't!! Didn't get to walk about as much this year as my ankle is still painful and going down to Felixstowe we did get a little on the warm side! Meet up with loads of friends, some we'd not seen for ages and spent most of the day chatting to people.

But here's our few photo's:

One for Dez (Bitzer wondered if you were down at Felixstowe as he saw a slammed Commer and wasn't sure if it was yours.)

Yummy wartime Humber, now I wouldn't mind one of those on the driveway.wink.gif

And finally some old banger!

Simon, I'm all for custom Sceptics, they aren't proper Humbers! (runs and hides now)

Steve: I don't know what sunvisors are like the Sceptics, but for the Snipes you're more likely to find hens teeth than one for a Snipe like ours, we've tried!

Paint the steelies until you can find the wheels you really want. Ask Father Christmas for some slutmags when you go to see him in the Co-op later in the year. giggle.gif And just a thought: you could always sell the badges that you take off the old gal. Give us a nod when you need to do any welding Steve wink.gif

Thanks Fi, thats very kind of you.

Wonder if i could fabricate a peak? I might not have any fingers left when i finished but it might be ok biggrin  Its a thought ya know...bit of ally....mmmm

Not a proper Humber? ..... i do agree really, theyre a tarted up Minx/vogue clone. Nice enough car but certainly no luxury barge like a Humber should be.

We bought a sunvisor last year, it wasn't a Humber one as it wasn't wide enough. The plan was to extend it, but then we bought the caravan and another Humber........

The Sceptres like yours were supposed to be the Sunbeam Rapier, but Rootes decided that they weren't sporty enough to carry the Sunbeam name and the car that was going to be the Rapier is now sitting on your driveway. The Rapier was a much prettier car.

We'd got a Holbay engine and  Dunlop Alloys to go on our old Rapier, Mike had lowered it and removed the overriders and then we got the Snipe. We used to use it lot, once it had been lowered going down Bramford Lane was interesting to say the least.

Strange thing is i like the Mk3 sceptre. I know its only a hunter in drag but the wood dash and door caps look nice and "british".
I'd love an old tax exempt Dolomite 1850 like my dads. That would bring back some memories for me now the old bugger's gone. A sprint would be nicer though.
Strange thing with me is that im not too bothered by Lanchesters, Armstrongs, Rollers, Ferrari's, Bentleys etc. I like bread and butter cars like Cortina's and Victors. I like yank motors too but cant really afford one at the mo. Im quite happy to try fitting a V8 into the Sceptre though.....smile.gif
At the end of the day im just a car freak. I'd have a barn full of 'em if the money was flowing well enough. Before i was married id have a different car every week. I'd often have three or four cars on the road at a time, worst thing is ive had so many immaculate rover 3.5's and at the time you couldnt give the bloody things away. Now look at the prices of 'em!!! Ive had a mint Mk4 cortina 2.0S, you never see them now. Jeez i could go on and on. Looked through my photo albums the other day, ive had over 150 everyday cars excluding classics. I'd like every penny back!!!!

The old gal started to warm up a bit just before felixstowe road, so rather than risk anything i pulled over for 10 mins and watched a few go by and rejoined. Some nice motors in the run this year, prom was full.

Yeah it was great fun. people waving and shouting, waving their flags, good laugh. a couple of birds kept waving at me in an audi convertible while i was parked up. i was quite flattered at first but after a while i got it. i reckon they thought "look at that big fat ugly bald git, give him a wave he looks desperate" biggrin
