wheels, making one out of two!

On my roadster I want to run wider steel wheels on the rear. At present they are 16"x4.5 - now I want to run something like a 16"x7 using my original wheel centres mated with some 7" rims from whatever.I understand in principal how to do this but where can I look to make a start?


I need someone who can help me find some brandX wheels of the correct measurements. Anyone got any ideas.

16"!!! Not the commonest size.  I'm going to my local classic breakers tomorrow so will see if there are any wheels you can butcher, but dont hold yer breath. What is the roadster?

Mitch any lead would be great, I know 16" will be difficult but I really want to keep it original looking as poss, with orig. centres apart from keeping the orig. look I will be able to keep orig. hubcaps too.


Check Fi's nats pics, roadster is on my trailer just mocked up to be there for the show on Sunday, it's a bit more together now and hopefully back on the road next summer.

The engineer in Acton who is fabricating my front tube axle said he should be able to do it.  If you struggle let me know and I will get a price for you

A lot of modern vans (Merc sprinter etc.) use 16 inch steel rims, possibly about 7 inch wide but I'm not sure.


Alternatively someone like Weller might make rims that you can fit your centres to.

Price not too important, if he thinks he can do it can we get together and look closer into this. I'm keen to keep going on this project for next season. I want some wide crossplies on it without going too tall so as to throw out the gearing. I saw some funky slick type ones at the supernats but only in 15", gotta be wide whites with a pie crust.

Struggling now, any help/leads appreciated..........Mitch, Mr P, anybody.....
Paul at Burnams haven't had any luck so far so I'm really stuck at this point.

Weller used to supply just rims with no centers then put in your own centers cut out of old rim. although someone on another thread treid and they wernt interested.

I would talk to Tom down on mersea, he has done them in the past so may well be able to help. Usually need two pairs of wheels  to make one pair of correct ones!
