As most of you know i bought a Sceptre the other day off Pogweasel.
So far i love it. I'm getting old now (38 yesterday) so want some creature comforts. The sceptre drives lovely, many luxuries such as a working cigarette lighter, 2 speed electric wipers, electric washers, good lights, its even got a light in the glove box. Very practical every day car with a good heater for the winter.
Sarah (the misses) loves it, so i'm going to do it up more for her than myself, the plan is nice and simple as it will be a daily driver. Gloss black with green metalflake roof, nice and low, de-badged, straight through exhaust. Next year will fit Rover V8 and auto box. Thats about it really, not very exciting but i'll keep you informed to the progress......oh yeah, i'm getting my chrome smoothies re-drilled to fit too. Just got to finish that caravan first.
Qwerty!!! How are you? have you got your Renault on the road yet?
I've sold the minor to Simons son, still got it at the mo but i should be delivering it to him in the next few days. I just saw this Sceptre and got the urge for something a bit bigger and more comfy. Should be nice when done. But dont worry the way i go through cars i'll have another one soon enough. I've got a 1300 engine and a turbo charger for one so i've got to put that in something next summer.
Its going in for paint on monday, going gloss black wth metalflake green roof - unfortunately i cant get the metalflake done till Jan. Low, smoothies, and rover V8. Nice and simple.
t is going to be a daily car so dont want to be too wild. Should be nice though.
Yeah, i like the flaps cos they're easy to get hold of. If you try www.bayarearods.co.uk they actually put the whitewall into your tyre. They're down your way too.
Cars in paint shop at the mo. Couple of subtle changes, its got a smooth boot lid now, no boot release, no number plate or chrome trim anymore.....it was the sprayers idea, but i didn't take much convincing. Doesn't look much at the mo but its getting there. And the only rot on the car is the rear drivers side arch. Not bad for a 40 year old car.
Right this is where we are at now. I dont want to show you too much till its nearer completion. It is pouring down at the moment and there's still a thick layer of dust from the paint shop on it. Going in for metal flake next week.
Quick tip: if you want a ggod paint job take it to 2 different painters. Neither want the other finding fault in there work which benifits you.
Need some side trim. The humber trim is fat and ugly so want some slim chrome trim for sides. Super minx trim or similar would be perfect so keep an eye out for me.
A couple more pics. I haven't fitted the front grill yet as i am not re-fitting the original but making my own one up. Lowering the front this week if it doesn't go in for the metal flake before then.
Not done much this week. Having trouble getting it much lower as the wheels are flush with the arches so cant get them tucked under as i would like. Its either keep the wheels and go about 2" lower or standard wheels and moon discs and drop it right down. Going in for roof paint next week. Looking forward to that. Am currently fitting the zebraskin carpet and stereo, amp etc.

You should know all about being an inch too small.
Got the humper back from the painters the other day and they did a lovely job.......but its the wrong colour!!! We wanted bright, in yer face snot green, not puss green!!

I agree. I did originally plan to put the stainless trim back on the sides so when they painted it they left the holes, so it makes it a bit trickier to do anything else now. I'm putting the upper chrome trim on tomorrow so will see how this looks. I am going to see an airbrush artist friend of mine on monday, he's one of the best and he wants to flame it so we'll see what he says. I know Simon's now thinking 'is he talking about Paul Karslake?'.....yes simon i am.
Put whitewalls on it yesterday, took them off today, they didn't sit right (flaps). Got my flames all arranged. Was hoping to get me and Simons hero Paul Karslake to do it but cant afford he's rates (even at mates rates) but thebloke who painted my candy minor and put the black on the sceptre for me is now doing it. I'm taking it there, masking the flames (after all that is kinda what i do) and flatting it back and he will do the rest, inc. re-doing the roof as the bloke who put the flake on did a sh1t job. all for the price of a small sign he needs.
Then on the way home my engine gave up on me so had to be relayed home and now planning the V8 conversion. ONLY PROBLEM IS THAT IT WONT BE ON THE ROAD FOR THE SHOW!! NOT GOOD.
Right, as you may or may not know i'm a bit lost with my car at the moment. The look thats emerging isn't the picture i had in my head at the beginning. It is going to get the roof re-metalflaked and metalflake green flames put on it. That was going to be done this week but the engine breaking has slowed things down a bit. I've never been happy with the wheels as the offset is wrong and they stick out a bit. So i cant lower it much. So i was considering modern alloys. The clever boys at Retro-rides did this impression of what it would look like. What do you think? Due to the offset of modern wheels i should be able to get it lower too.

Mitch, no offence as you asked for opinions well IMHO you'd totally ruin the look and lines of a lovely car by putting on anything like those in the picture. The combination just doesn't gel. I know a lot of people do like that look and you see it more and more especially on Yanks, guess I'm just old fashioned. Now chrome smoothies on the Septic! that's more like it
Thanks for the honest answer Jerry. I must be honest i'm a bit lost with this car. Usually i can picture what a car will look like when its finished but this one isn't working for me. I love the smoothies but not on this car, the offset on the wheels means that they stick out and i cant get the car very low (its about as low as it can get now) without the wheels rubbing. I want the car to make more of a statement and i think that maybe the combination of these wheels and green flames could be what it needs. Fingers crossed. I might also be replacing the knackered engine with another standard one just cos i can get it back on the road where it belongs a lot quicker.

Well, if you end up putting that wheel/tyre combo on you'd better move on to a more like minded website... need the link? Or stay focused and maybe try Northants tyres or someone similar and talk to a wheel man. It has the potential to be a way cool ride for a Brit car and I'm very Yank biased as most of you know and it's easy to loose your way with mods especially if you're trying to meet a deadline or rush to the finish. I'm 8-10 years into one and I'm still changing things that I thought looked good at the time. A standard engine swap to keep things moving would be a wise move then if you still love the car look at building whatever engine you fancy. Then again I see you change cars with more frequency than your underpants so all this may well be old news next week and you're raving about that lowered Tigra you've spotted and just gotta have!!
Just a thought ,i can relate to your predicament so i,ll put my two peneth in,how about chrome wires, but at the end of the day its down to what your happy with mate.

Ive not met you yet and hope to on Wednesday, but that comment is very dangerous!!!!
I would rather slag off Mitchs Mum, Wife and Kids before making that accusation!!
For what its worth, I saw the car with smoothies on it looked crap, it may be that the wheels were an inch to small. I said no to modern wheels, as I said when he put alloys on the red moggie instead of white walls, but I dont think they look bad, they look different and isnt that what all this is about?
Cheers for the suggestions guys, I couldn't have spokes as i hate cleaning cars so they would drive me crazy trying to keep them clean. As for getting a Tigra, i couldn't afford the £30,000 it costs to get a good one.
