I'm interested in knowing whats involed in importing a scooter/moped from Europe.
I wasn't thinking of a Vespa/Lambretta more of a Moped from Francais! Is it much the same as importing a car? Get it MOT'd then apply for registration? Anybody done it?
Remember that as well as registering it, you will need to vat on it. The only way I have found to get round this is by stripping the scooter to bits and bringing it in as spares. The only problem there is when registered you might have a q plate. Depending on what you want to import and how rare it is, it is often cheaper in the long run to just buy here.
Yeah I might just have a look around for one here. Might be going through my CBT for nowt and I want to get something a bit different. Vespa's and Lambretta's are to expensive so I was thinking an old Peugeot or Puch or similar.
One thing to watch for with old scooters is pedals. Some old mopeds you have to sit on them and pedal to get them started - its an absolute B4stard. I remember pedalling for about 20 minutes to get my mates old Mobylette started, twas a b4stard.
I had the same with a Puch Maxi!!!! But once started, it never stopped, We used to use it as a trials back in the woods.......until someone caught the pedal on a tree trunk and flipped it down a bank. The poor bugger woke up in hospital!!
Depends how much you want to spend. The best modern twist and go is the Piaggio (vespa) Et range. For a good retro scooter.......Mitch, what was the name of the one you rode back from grays for Jo?
