stalling when warming up

looking for some advice, in the hope that I can make the flixton show next sunday.

The hilman is having some issues.

I can get it to start ok and it'll idle happily (a little quick if anything) for a few minutes, then it starts to struggle and burbles to a halt. I've checked all my fuel lines and the fuel pump and they seem to be ok. I've cleaned the carb and checked the float, all seems ok there too.

checked the spark plugs , signs of running rich, so I've cleaned them up.

I've noticed that the screw for the mixture is almost fully out. so thats rich as hell right?

my carb is this solex

like i say it'll start fine from cold, then once it's warmed up a bit it just chugs out.

any advice?

I've wasted a week on it and I just don't know enough to solve it!. should just sell up and get a push bike I think.

looking at the clip the choke is not fully open and if the mixture screw is fully out then try screwing it in and see if it makes a difference it could be running to rich
screw the mixture screw in slowly till it changes note like its going to starve of petrol then unscrew it 1/2 to 3/4 of a turn

Yes if the mixture screw is out a long way then it will be running rich. Maybe you have a workshop manual telling you how to set the mixture? If not the easiest way to get it somewhere near right is to get the engine running then wind the screw in until the engine starts 'hunting' then slowly wind screw back out until the engine runs smooth then adjust your tickover screw to suit.

beat me to it Mark!

cheers folks will try to tackle this tonight. if I can just get it running well enough to get it to a garage then I'd be happy with that.
Obviously if I can get it so it doesn't need to go anywhare then I'd be happier, but I really wanted to make the flixton show. Theres always the mazda I guess :(

got the carb all sorted but was still having probs. Si, popped round this morning and discovered the coil was also faulty. Have just fitted a new coil and so far so good! need to get a full set of new leads though.

so yeah, I think I'm good to go but tomorrow for flixton I'll be in the modern .

cheers

Just for peace of mind SpeedySpares can sell you a Weber carb to replace your Zenith for around £130 if interested.
