How hard and could it be done?

Now, bear wiv me on this. might take some explainin.
I cant take credit for this idea, it comes from my mate Justin an i quite like the sound of it so here goes.
T-Tops. Would it be possible to cut out two panels from the roof of a car, and be able to add a rubber seal to the cut panel, and another to the edge of the hole made, to create a seal when the panel is replaced?  Obviously there would be some thought needed into how the panels would be locked into position but could it be done?

Oops, shoulda put this in tech sorry.

I'm not a techie, in fact far from it, but I'd guess for most cars you would need to incorporate additional bracing.

im with big black on this in imagine you would have to add strength from b pillars across the car.

Indeed you would need to add additional strength when they made my old cavalier into a pickup they chopped the rear end off and the first one they did it on bent in half !! they then got another cavalier and jacked the whole car up off the ground, welded in strength before attacking with the grinder, several bars were then welded into the roof to for a new strengh pillar

Hmmmmm.....the reason i asked is because Beetles tend to be fairly strong even when the roof is hacked off. A lot of Volksrods ive enquired about have had no extra bracing to the chassis even when they are full convertibles. Im now wondering if they have been bodged instead of done properly????? I know more modern cars have a certain amount of their rigidity in the roof but wasnt too sure on Bugs because of the style of chassis. more finkin to be done smile.gif

The best way i think!

would to buy some from another car T-top and roof section and cut them it, I did this on a mates Beetle to fit a full sunroof from an early 50s bug.
