My missus collects old sewing machines and while in her loft i found this one she didn't want anymore (she didn't like the pattern on it) so i said to her i would strip it down to find out how it works so i had the knowledge to fix her others which didn't work. i won't say anymore but she didn't know i was doing it and i'm about to take it over to her so fingers crossed i don't get a smack round the ear! air work was done by my mate Simon in my earlier post
my nan left me her one when she passed away 3 yrs ago , it has original paper work reciepts of brought new etc...not for sale though. but do you know where i can get a new belt from to get the tred bit working again, thats all it needs.. got a lovely stich my my mum tells me...god knows how old it is...
Forgot to say, if anyone have an old machine especially a treadle let me know cos she wants one
Bugger! I had 15 of the buggers up until this time last year! Tried to sell them but no-one wanted them, so all but 2 went for scrap including a treadle. The base is now being used as very crude table in the garden.
that's the problem with them, 50 years ago every household had at least 1 which means there's still sew many about and you can't give the 'average' 1's away. A really nice working 1 of a common model will only sell for around £30.
Sorry Mrs Pop, no idea where you could get a belt i did a quick google search and found nothing, maybe measure the old belt and see what a motor factors can get in???
Good news is i didn't get told off and i managed to set it up to stitch all by myself lol

You're right, although most I've seen in the local paper in good working order etc are only £10 or so, making it a buyer's market. About 12 years ago Mike got a treadle from a bootsale for less than £20! The sad thing is that these old ones will out live the moderns hands down. I've had 3 electric ones in the past 17 years, each were unable to be repaired or it would be cheaper to go and buy a new one.
But what do fetch the money are the toy ones, because they are so small. I've got a couple.
Hmmmm, you've got me thinking.... Where did Sniper leave the paint stripper.

good news, after she was inpuse buying (drunkened) on ebay friday night she bought an 1885 machine on a treadle which i have just done a 7 hour round trip to collect. that needed a belt too so i spent a bit more time looking and came up with this site
