Deary, deary me!

As you know I use the Old Classic Car forum, today I saw this:

http://www.oldclassiccar.co.uk/forum/phpbb/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=6306

Gives those of us into the classic car scene the impression that we're all narrow minded. At least the car is preserved and being used!

I'm probably opening a can of words here.......

I have seen this car on the road and at shows and looks and sound great.  I even think its been abroad to represent the NSRA at shows abroad.

Not every ones cup of tea, but thats what makes the world such a fantastic place!!

A lot of people say my Beetle is weird or ugly, most in fact, but i like it and being the owner, thats what matters. It would be boring if we all liked the same stuff.

the classic scene look at us and think we are destroying the cars by rodding but in reality the sums spent on them a lot of rods could have been restored
then again classic scene can be a bit of pipe and slippersevileye

As I came in with the pop he just said over the tannoy 'what can I say, it used to be a pop' and then didnt talk to me. .....Still them wide tyres spin well on grass!!!! ha ha

i had a similar experience at same show with same old by 3 years ago in my old pop, he said it was a 'hotrod based on a ford pop' when i corrected him and said it is a ford pop he said no its not because as we all know ladies and gentlemen ford pops had narrow wheels and certainly didnt look or sound like this! Rum boy!

Could be worste Si, i drove into the ring at Manningtree in that sparkly gay thing i had and the commentator went well isnt it glittery, and it has something called Airfags :(

When i told him they were airbags he didnt bother to correct himself and i looked like a complete tosser ! ( Even more so than normal ! )

The old boy at Manningtree you lot are talking about is a very sweet chap, knows his onions and dispite what he says he does have a great deal of respect for what we do as the cars are on the road and being used. It was his fault we bought that fire engine.....

How do you go about gettin in the arena then? do you get picked or what? Always the same old things in there.
And i think Ian Kerr (fink thats his name) should have a bit of respect for modified stuff cos otherwise they might have ended up on the scrapheap. I know which id rather see. He is a knowledgeable chappy but if you want to be a mc at a car show youve got to expect customs, rods etc.

I just re-read that and it sounds like a rant. biggrin Its not btw. aww

yes you get picked to go in the arena but they do concentrate more on the classic cars or that whats it seems but then most of them are.
if i remember rightly last year he did go up and down the aisles giving a brief description of the vehicles ..........................but maybe he had one to many as the poor old boy made a few mistakes including saying here we have a model B which i did correct him that its was a model A but on the whole i think he does well as theres always a wide variety or cars
i'm not knocking it because it is a well organised local showsmile

You're right he is very knowledgeable and ive spoke to him at a couple of shows and he is a decent old boy.
If you wanna enter his ring at Manningtree you just simply join the queue!
At some of the shows you have to be picked to go in but not Manningtree.
