having an opinion

well, where shall we start! I have always been an independant, don't join clubs!! to many bloody politics and bitchin for my likeing.
As it says at the top its all about having an opinion, rightly or wrongly !! I don't give a damn, its my bloody opinion, like the site says you either get it or you don't, as with my opinion you either like it you don't, I ain't bothered.

As much as we would all like to see today's up and coming younger generation of " car enthusiasts " develop and become an asset to the future of our hobby, I just can't see it happening.
Firstly they need to grow up !! we can all drive like complete ****s around town, remember it only takes one mistake to go from looking like joe cool (in your own tiny mind) to being joe c**t.
You want to drive fast, go to a race track if you think you've got what it takes ?? you want to drive like a ****, don't do it where I can catch you !!!!!!!!!!!
It seems to me that although deuce wants to be a keen rodder, on the other hand he just want's to look good in front of a bunch of imature iresponsible children, the differences between old skool and certain modern youngsters is not going to be bridged that easily.
They need to learn some respect for other people , not just themselves, boom boxes and attitude will only get you something you don't want ?????????
I am at the stage where I think certain people need to realise whats important to them and their so called hobby, before it gets ruined by a bunch of ****s !!!
I'm sure that if you don't like my opinion , i'm not hard to find !!!!!!!!!

You seem to have summed that up quite well,i have to agree with you, kind of remindes me of the kid who left school and still hung around with the little schoolies down the shops to look cool.
i,m afraid the boombox ba****ds of today couldn,t give a toss what anyone else thinks but they couldn,t give a toss in their normal day to day life anyway.
i,m sorry but i,m old skool (before political correctness)and i tell some one once and then i physicaly show them what i meant.
you will get no respect from these t****rs by talking to them.
any way i don,t usually get involved with criticising disscussions but things like this really piss me off especialy when they were welcomed to a show they didn,t belong at.
sorry.

like i said dell !! certain youngster's , not all.......
some of the youngsters know what they want, have been brought up the right way ( like learning to show some bloody respect ), and will help take this great hobby of ours forward into the future.

I wasnt going to comment on this as its your rant not mine!!

But I think the point that some are missing here is, its not so much we have brought our kids up in a 'hot rod' way , as brought them up to know right from wrong, respect to elders and when to shut up and when to stand up for them selves.

Some one on another forum regularly insults and threaten others, far older and wiser than himself. i would never have done that and would like to think my kids wouldnt either.

As a Manager trying to employ and bring young people to train, it is getting harder and harder. Could you imagine a 17 yr old today doing Y.T.S. for £25 a 6 day week 8am - 8pm and having to spend most of it sweeping and making tea.

Times have changed, but so have the parents but I dont think I have ever had a problem with a rodders kids at any show and if I did feel fairly confident it would be sorted the same way I would with mine!!

I do agree with you all here, you all know my opinion on this, but it dont half make you all sound old!
As i said already, you know where i stand on this, but i'm not getting involved anymore cos its the same old thing. I cant be bothered with it all. I'm just going to go to the shows and enjoy myself, at the end of the day we all know that the average PROPER car enthusiast will never let these kids ruin our rod runs.

i do agree with you , like you said they should respect others around them, when you go to the shows its for familys as well. i do think some people need socialising to help them adjust to their surroundings when at shows...i like seeing the cars and meeting the owners. i know they an't gonna stop me from haveing fun and saying what i feel bridge or no bridge....

The sad thing is the plonker that was spoiling the day for everyone at Manningtree was by no means a kid. He had a van full of kids listening to the boom box but the offender was, by date of birth at least, an adult. What chance have those kids got of learning acceptable behaviour?

Personally thought Deuce, as M&R 'Arkala', would have had a word with the pratt as his behaviour made them all look bad, which was a shame because whether it's my taste or not, some folks obviously liked seeing their cars.

What was that bit about leading by example?

What actually constitutes a club ?

Is it a group of people with similar interests meeting and sharing those; at the same time enjoying each others company. If so and together with this excellent website, you could argue that then to a large degree Turtlespeed is already a club ! Sure there's no 'club officials' as such and no membership fee, but it is a thought ! (And one I won't labour smile.gif

As to relating to youngsters, it's a tricky one. A large number appear to be 'hi-jacked by the Max Power attitude', which is something I hate with a passion. To me cars, especially Hot Rods are to be enjoyed by the whole family, including the ladies. The use and portrayal of women as merely trinkets to draped salaciously over cars, is in my view at best demeaning and possible very offensive, particularly I'd hazard a guess, to our own womenfolk.

Sure as a single fella it appears good fun. But it goes way beyond that IMHO. I'm in no way a prude. It just ain't the place for it, in my view.

This coupled with the very 'grey' area of "what is a Hot Rod and what is a Modified" and with every good intention in world, the situation is bound to create friction. To have a Hot Rod meet saturated by cars with a loud stereos and a body kit, as their only qualification for inclusion, frankly I feel is wrong. People are bonded together by their common interests and simply as a matter of personal preference, I do not find that interesting.

It doesn't mean I disrespect their cars, just they're not my cup of tea. I would never be rude or become snobbish about it, just know what I like. I'm knocking 50 and I believe at my advanced stage in life I have a right to choose. I don't choose 'thudding base' inflicted upon everyone within a quarter of a mile, whether they like it or not.

That said, whilst I feel that the 'bridge builders' have their work cut out for them, I do wish them luck and if they find a way to make it work, then good for them.

Im still a "newbie" here but i would like my say. (Highly opinionated cancerian gitbiggrin)
The thump thump of exaggerated bass tones is, to me personally, like jamming a kebab skewer in my earhole. I get that racket constantly passing my house late at night. Its so loud and thudding it sometimes wakes my 18 month old son. Do these guys n girls really think that everyone in the area wants to listen to their music? Dont get me wrong here, they may be a real nice bunch of people to know and talk to, but that music pumped up that high is just a distorted mess.
In general im a placid easy going sort of meldrew wink but a couple of nights ago, this Saxo with a Halfords bodykit sat right outside my driveway, music hammering full blast, on the phone!!! How the hell could he hear what the other person was saying????? Worst thing was it was nearly 11:00 pm furious
Wheres the respect?

I'm only 23 and I I don't like the boom box, my stereo cost more than my airfix kit of a car, halfords modified, ripspeed, my exhaust is so fat (no Phat) that I could get my head in it, blue neon washer jetted corsnovaxo brigade.

I don't see how spending all night in Burgerking/McDonalds car park throwing litter on the floor when the bin is only a foot away, and seeing how loud my stereo can go or driving 14 year old girls around the streets like an idiot endangering lives can be fun.

thats my rant out of the way. I wasn't at the manningtree show, but I have seen that sort of stupid I'll inflict my music on everyone within a 4 mile radius attitude in other places.

PS mr.bowtie, I've gotten my diesel motor out and should if all goes wel be going to pick up the motors on Sunday, are you still ok to lend a hand getting me up and running again once I've got the motors back to Ipswich?

cheers

Martin

Well i wasn't at the show so I don't really know what happened

But.... I am a "yoof", and although I have a Love for old cars, including Rods customs and standard, I drive a modern(ish) hot hatch. However I don't have a thumping stereo, or Huge exhaust etc etc. I think people my age are now conditioned to act like prats. Its prolly due to the hormone imbalance young people (especially males) seem to suffer from which makes them want to show off by being prat's. However I feel as if it may be society that is raising children/teenagers to be cheeky, lack respect and take no responsibility for their actions. I hope that I don't refelect any of these attributes.

Anybody who nows the different between respect and being a prat aint the type of people I am moaning about and seeing that you already have aspirations of progressing on to proper rods and customs you obviously fall

in the right catagory ( perhaps it is like somebody said we are just a bunch of miserable old gits ha.ha)biggrinbiggrin

It's really a case of...'a time and a place for everything'.
I am an old git but I've made it to this age and hope to have a few more years enjoying the area I like within the car scene
.Car shows for me are an escape from todays world where I can sit relax walk about reminissing and shooting the ****e about the 'good 'ol days' of motoring. In my mind re-live past experiences I've had with a similar vehicle in front of me. Tastes change as we go along and although my first love has always been yanks I've got into the rod scene a lot more in the last few years, I also appreciate old Brit stuff stock or otherwise. I attend shows that encompass this type of vehicle and the times they come from, the whole historical thing, the culture and the music from a wide bygone era.I.E. if I want rods and rock 'n roll, Rileys and Joe Loss or Tigras and Chuggaluggaboomboom I pick a show that gives me that, each to thier own, keep it that way.
I do not want to have todays cars or music rammed down my throat when I'm out on a day pass from all of that, a 'conventional' show or rod do is my escape from it, as Steve said todays stuff is boom booming past you all day and  can be seen front wheel sqeeling past the trollies at any supermarket.
Modern technology and ideas are obviously making big inroads on the scene but it seems in the old car/rod scene they are used in character of the vehicle being modified or adapted just to keep said vehicle on the road.
I think these are general feelings that are felt by the majority of old car nuts, not just owners and I just hope that show organisers pick up on it and start to have tighter entry stipulations because unfortunately we are at the beginning of yet another new era, lets just hope it doesn't turn into a 'revolution' as wished for on another forum we all frequent!!
