Hello, the Viva gearbox is similar- but you will have to check the diameter of the flywheel, i once had to fit a gearbox i got from breakers to my Brabham HB Viva. It mated to the engine, gearbox mounts and prop o.k., but i had to grind slots in the bellhousing to clear the ringgear (the ringgear actually protruded through the bellhousing in a couple of places!). However i fitted a Chevette gearbox to my HC estate with no problems, so your gearbox may fit depending which model it came from! At least it's a light gearbox and very easy to fit. Good luck with the swap, hope it goes well.
I think 1256 boxes are all the same. A Chevette engine bolted straight up to the gearbox in my old 1978 HC Viva. Not so sure about 1159cc or earler Viva ones though!
